Born Andres Hoyos in Los Angeles, California, "Andy" calls the Seattle suburb of Issaquah home, where he works and lives with his wife Michelle. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Washington State, Andy creates works that are inspired by the disciplines of Joseph H. Pilates and eastern philosophies; his work's primary focus is on the human body in a state of "physical meditation", using the practices of Yoga and Pilates. His wife and muse, Michelle, a Pilates trainer, is the original catalyst for exploring this avenue of expression.
Fascinated by movies and TV at least in part because his father was a well known character actor in the 50s and 60s, Andy became involved in television graphics, launching his fledgling art career at NBC TV's Graphic Arts Department in Burbank, California, creating artwork for shows like the Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson, and Sanford and Son with Redd Foxx. In the early 1990s, Andy became involved with art directing for a ground-breaking software company, Sierra Online.
After years as a visual conceptualist for the entertainment industry, Andy's creative yearnings turned to more unconventional and personal themes, which led him to the creation of the paintings seen on these pages. Working with paint programs on the computer, he creates many of the images seen here as hand-signed, limited-edition prints. He also creates with oil paints as well as oil pastel on canvas and watercolor paper.
